Webinar - Rethinking River Restoration: The "Stage Zero" Concept and case studies
On The June 10, 2025
3pm - 5.30pm
Remotely
"Stage Zero" River Restoration, what does it mean?
Webinar organized jointly by Réseaux Rivières TV and H2O'Lyon.
River restoration projects have typically focused on "re-meandering" straightened rivers, assuming these rivers originally exhibited single-channel meanders. River morphology is influenced by biology, hydrology, and geology. Valley restoration therefore requires thinking beyond the river channel. The philosophy of "Stage Zero" restoration is to harness natural processes to rehabilitate a multi-channel network from a modified and incised, or improving, channel and to reconnect the river to its floodplain. This approach produces a more resilient habitat mosaic than typical single-channel restoration.

Join us for this webinar to explore real-world examples of Stage Zero river restoration projects implemented in England.
Arnaud Forêt, a Master's student in Integrated Watershed Sciences who explored these topics during his first-year internship, and Antoine Werochowski, host of Réseaux Rivières TV, will guide the session alongside invited experts.
