Workshop
Doc.H2O #12 Scientists' Commitment: Why and How?
On October 21, 2025
2pm - 8pm
Université Lyon 3, salle la Rotonde, 18 rue Chevreul 69007 Lyon
The aim of the Doc.H2O evenings/days is to encourage PhD students and young researchers (post-docs, ATERs, etc.) from the H2O'Lyon community to meet up and exchange ideas, opportunities and mutual support, and to enable them to acquire useful skills for their professional careers, including workshops. These quarterly events are organised with and for PhD students and young doctors.
What role can scientists play in society beyond their research? How can academic rigour be combined with involvement in major environmental, social or political issues?
We invite you to explore these questions through the prism of ethics, testimonials and experience sharing so that you can share your questions and aspirations and leave with.
Programme
- Introductory remarks - What can ethics committees teach us about scientists' commitment?
With Bernadette Bensaude-Vincent, philosopher, Panthéon-Sorbonne University and vice-president of the joint ethics committee INRAE, IRD, CIRAD, IFREMER.
- Mini round tables - To explore what commitment means to each of us and discuss your questions and aspirations.
